Clone snipers or clone sharpshooters were a specialized variant of clone trooper that served in the Grand Army of the Republic.
History[]
In 32 BBY, when the Grand Army of the Republic was commissioned, the clone troopers began their development and training shortly thereafter. Unlike a standard military, where the best marksmen were elevated to a sniper position, all clones possessed the same eyesight, accuracy, and reaction time instinctively. However, to distinguish the troopers with their accuracy, troopers were flash-trained with the intricacies of being the best snipers. Upon deployment at the First Battle of Geonosis in 22 BBY, the clone snipers were distinguished with maroon trim on their Phase I clone trooper armor.[1] As the Clone Wars continued, the armor trim was modelled around the unit they were deployed within. The 501st Legion had their own detachment of snipers, as did the 41st Elite Corps with Green Company.[1][2] Clone commando units each possessed a designated sniper, despite each of the commandos were given training for marksmanship, with some commandos taking multiple roles such as clone medic, such as Fi Skirata.[3] Sev of Delta Squad was considered to be a master sniper and regarded as a slightly psychopathic individual, thrilled by the adrenaline of combat.[4]
Armor and Equipment[]
The standard Phase I clone trooper armor was lightweight and suited the sharpshooter perfectly in heavy combat. They were equipped with specialized DC-15x sniper rifles, DC-15Ss, R-1 recon droids, autoturrets, and V-1 thermal detonator.[1] The commandos possessed a DC-17m Interchangeable Weapon System, which had the ability to switch between multiple attachments such as a grenade launcher, automatic rifle, and sniper rifle.[4] A great deal of specialists possessed electrobinoculars.[5]
