By the end of the Clone Wars in 19 BBY, the Galactic Republic was turned in the first Galactic Empire. The veteran clones of Jango Fett that were a part of the Grand Army became known as stormtroopers. During this time, the clones' Phase II armor was replaced by the new and improved stormtrooper armor. By 12 BBY, clone troopers of Jango Fett would cease to dominate the stormtrooper ranks, which would mainly consist of clones from other templates and from enlisted humans. This caused difficulties and conflict with the original clones with their fellow troopers.
Stormtroopers were numerous and had superior armor and weapons, but they were less respected as soldiers than the clone troopers that came before them. This was mainly due to them being less effective. With the recruitment of humans and other clones besides the Jango Fett clones, there was a damaging effect on the operational effectiveness of the stormtroopers.
After the deaths of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader, the Galactic Empire for the most part ceased to be, and the remaining stormtroopers served under several factions.
Armor and EquipmentEdit
Stormtroopers were equipped with high-grade plastoid armor which was resistant to most pistols and projectile weapons. It consisted of 18 pieces and completely encased the trooper's body. The armor protected the stormtrooper from harsh environments and allowed operations in a wide range of climates, which included the vacuum of space. Some troopers complained about smaller eye holes, which made it difficult to see, unlike the larger visors of the clone trooper armor.
They carried Baradium-core code key thermal detonators that could be set to explode in 6-18 seconds. These detonators were made where only the stormtroopers could use them and could not be used against them. They also carried a grappling hook and extra magazine clips. Stormtroopers carried a BlasTech E-11 blaster rifle, which was the standard rifle used in the Stormtrooper Corps. Troopers also carried a DLT-19 heavy blaster rifle, which was very powerful and accurate.
